1MW Induction Furnace Upgrade The furnace had an old relay based control system for swiching the tranformer taps and capacitor banks. The main power contactors were unreliable and inadequate for the duty. The project was to upgrade the control system and improve reliability and control. The relay logic was replaced with a mitsubishi PLC. New contactors were fitted for power the switching. Monitoring was provided by a Scada system. The new control system allowed for more efficient operation of the furnace with improved reliability
