Energy Efficiency
Modern methods and equipment now make it even easier to be energy efficient.
In industry one of the easiest ways of saving energy is by the use of variable speed drives for pump and fan motors. Not only does this reduce the energy bill it can also contribute to the reliability of the machinery by reducing the shock loads produced by old 'direct' starting methods.
In commercial properties modern building control systems allow efficient use of energy by monitoring internal and outside parameters (light, temperature etc.). This data together with the use of presence sensors allows the system to use energy only where it is required. Modern wireless technology means that retrofitting these systems to older properties is now economically practical.
As a logical progression simpler automation systems are now available for domestic properties. If these are considered at the early stage of design they can contribute effectively to the energy efficiency of the property.
